stylet tip thickening absent
Macrostomum ruebushi var recurvostylum Fig 24-26.jpg

The eyes are small, black, and are not embedded in the brain tissue. The penis-stilette is an irregularly reduced funnel with a pointed end hooked into a right hand bend. The opening is terminal and is toward the posterior. The base is wide and crenated. p. 39
Macrostomum ruebushi var frigoriphilum Fig 14-18.jpg

The fairly large reniform eyes are oriented in a latero-anterior fashion. The penis-stilette is a slightly curved funnel with a distally sharpened point. The opening is terminal. p. 33
Macrostomum thermale Fig 11.jpg

The penis stilette is depicted as an irregular tube with a distal terminal splitting of the thickened walls. Taxonomically, M. lutheri is placed in species dubiae of the genus Macrostomum because of the unscientific methods used and the lack of material upon this animal. It is this present author's opinion that the stilette shown in figure is a greatly flattened and distorted stilette of Macrostomum bulbostylum mihi described in the same paper (GIEYSZTOR 1931). p. 143

The pigmentspherules composing the cup (eyes) are the smallest that I have studied. Stylet: This tubular structure presents the figure of a long funnel with a widened crenate base and a slightly expanded termination. The opening is terminal. This species possesses a unique sperm-cell. This singular cell measures 36 micro in length and is equipped with the characteristic pair of anterior setae, a very thin feeler, and a tail region which bears a pair of lateral undulating flanges, in which region the chromatin granules are located. Chromatin granules are usually located in the anterior region of the sperm cell in Macrostomum. The feeler is a highly vibratile process. p. 125

The inadequate description of the male genital system, and the failure to have observed the female system in the single specimen found constitutes reasons for placing the species of PEREYASLAWZEWA under the category of species dubiae. p. 144
Macrostomum stylopencillum Fig 6.jpg

The eyes are small, reniform organs with distinct lens. There is a fine lamella at the bend of the stilette. The end of the stilette is obliquely truncated, backwardly directed toward the base of the penis. p. 121/122
Macrostomum virginianum Fig 18-24.jpg

The penis-stilette is unusually small for an animal of this size. It measures 35micro in length. Morphologically, the stilette is a simple, curved, funnel-like tube with a sub-terminal opening which is subtended by the pointed end. The sperm-cell is spindle-shaped. Two setae are present and there is a very large undulating 'Mittelrippe' on the mid-line of the surface of the cell extending from feeler to 'tail'. Chromatin material is not visible in this sperm-cell. p. 132/133
